However, despite its illustrious past, the company faced a pressing challenge in the form of an outdated ERP system, which had served them well for over two decades but had now become outdated due to the rapid advancements in technology.

Recognising the urgency to adapt to the digital age, Adey Steel signed up to the support offered by Made Smarter East Midlands. Through the programme, Adey Steel have received comprehensive and personalised guidance from Oxford Innovation, culminating in the development of a bespoke digitalisation roadmap spanning several years. Adey Steel's digital journey, led by their Group Operations Manager, Andy Leather, have since started on a transformative journey aimed at revolutionising their operations and enhancing their competitiveness in the market.

Crucially, Andy's participation in the Digital Transformation Course at Loughborough University equipped him with invaluable insights and strategies essential for navigating the complexities of modernising Adey Steel's technological infrastructure. Furthermore, the company has benefited from fully funded intensive support through the Industrial Digital Technology Advice (IDTA) programme delivered by the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC), further solidifying their commitment to embracing cutting-edge digital solutions.

As Adey Steel awaits the grant funding to support the implementation of their digitalisation project, anticipation runs high for the promising future that lies ahead. With a dedication to quality and a relentless pursuit of excellence ingrained in their organisational DNA since their inception by founder Harry Adey in 1925, Adey Steel stands poised to embrace the opportunities presented by digital innovation, ensuring their continued success in delivering infrastructure projects of up to £20 million across the UK.
