Awards recognise North West manufacturing success

The region's manufacturing sector has been celebrated at Insider's 2019 Made in the North West Awards, with well-known names from a host of sectors among the winners. The event took place last night (9 May) at The Lowry Hotel Manchester and was compered by Manish Bhasin. It was held in association with the Department for International Trade, with Biffa and Made Smarter both sponsors. The Manufacturers Alliance was an associate sponsor.

Apprentice of the Year

Winner: Tyler Atkinson, WEC Group Ltd
Tyler, who became an apprentice at WEC Group when he was 16, has worked on projects ranging from a 24 tonne bridge to a space rocket and represented the company at international events.

Manufacturing Innovation Award
Winner: Packaging Automation Ltd
Packaging Automation was hailed by the judges as a great example of innovation in increasing manufacturing efficiency.

Collaboration Award
Winner: Virtual Engineering Centre with Heap and Partners
The engineering company has worked with Liverpool’s Virtual Engineering Centre to adopt innovative technologies and was described by the judges as an example of true collaboration.
