Technology moves quickly, and Pyramid Plastics T/A Pyramid Motorcycles Accessories has been making use of cutting-edge technology thanks to Made Smarter East Midlands.
As a specialist designer of after-market motorcycle parts, Pyramid Motorcycles needed to find innovative new ways to speed up their design through to production process, getting good quality parts to market as quick as possible.
Made Smarter worked with Pyramid Motorcycles to develop a roadmap for the business, helping them to get an outside perspective on their planning and processes and what was required to innovate and aim towards the future growth they wanted. The plan involved the adoption of new advances in 3D scanning technology which was fundamental to speeding up their processes.
Pyramid’s previous 3D scanning was performed using a consumer app on a smart phone. While innovative initially, it caused issues with time to market delivery as the internal design team would have to create several prototypes to ensure products were made to specification. The new 3D scanner is a purpose-built device, giving them not only much faster scanning ability but with incredibly accuracy. This allows Pyramid to develop parts accurately and efficiently, saving time and money.
As Pyramid Motorcycles grows, they have integrated an ERP system to reduce the risk of errors in shipping and have also started on building a new warehouse with dedicated areas for design, as well as an onsite staff cafeteria.
