This project is part of a Government Industrial Strategy Funded Project, working in partnership with BAE Systems, Rolls Royce, GKN, Nissan, and Airbus UK. The aim is to remove paperwork from the shop floor, using technology to improve efficiency within their operations and ultimately deliver better value to their customers. Additionally, they wish to integrate Digital Technology, initiate a connected facility where decisions are made based on live accessible data presented across all areas of the business from a central location for users to access, interact and analyse up-to-date information to enable smarter, data-driven decisions.

Our client is a Surface Treatments and Non-destructive testing company who supply services to the Aerospace Industry. Our client is looking to strengthen the team to support the implementation process of a new ERP system. This project will digitalise shop floor data capture and provide data analytics focused on productivity and customer service. The successful candidate will take a lead role within the implementation team and be responsible for the successful data migration and introduction of the WIP tracking process.

Software Engineer

Our client is an owner-managed textile business based in Stockport. The company was established in 1999 and now employs over 100 FTEs. They set out to be the UK’s first one stop shop in the garment sector, bringing together all the key garment finishing processes including labelling, printing and embroidery together in one business. The company has now been supplying Britain’s businesses with branded work wear and promotional clothing for 20 years and more recently has opened routes to export sales into Europe.

The proposal of this project is to adopt a proof of concept bar code scanner that will create a “box list” digitally. This will follow the example case study shown on the digitalshoestring.com website where a barcode scanner and database was implemented for less than £1000. This project should be a great real-life application of technology and will provide the basis to engage further down the line in building out a solution to remove the manual systems causing unnecessary data entry.

SFDC Systems Integration

Our client is a privately-owned family business celebrating its 43rd year. From humble beginnings as a one-man-band making wrought-iron gates, they now employ around 80 staff as a subcontract steelwork manufacturer to a wide range of sectors including rail, defence, office furniture, automotive, and cycling to name a few.

The intern would support the implementation of the SFDC system and create the analysis tools required to close the feedback loop in their newly digitised factory. The goal is digital capacity planning for their manufacturing plant.

The successful intern will be involved in an exciting technology trial which is scheduled for first deployment in the real world during the placement. This project will support the development of an improved design for scaled up smart manufacture. The company’s technology is housed in street side cabinets and includes communications, control electronics, firmware, server software, and, high current: switchgear; and power electronics. Work conducted by the student will aim to streamline and automate manufacturing processes to enable scale up from trial to mass production.

Desirable Skills: To be enrolled on or completed an Electrical/Electronic Engineering course which is fully accredited by the IET. To have an outstanding Mathematics academic record.
