Cyber threats continue to evolve, and human error remains the most common cause of security incidents.

Made Smarter Yorkshire is launching new, fully funded cyber security workshops this September. Delivered in partnership with Sheffield Hallam University, these workshops will help manufacturers strengthen their cyber awareness, resilience and security practices.

Every manufacturer starts from a different place. Whether your business is taking its first steps in cyber security, preparing for certification or working towards internationally recognised standards, our training is designed to meets you where you are. With four progressive levels, you can choose the right support for your current needs and build your cyber resilience at a practical, achievable pace.

Sessions
Cyber Security Awareness

New to cyber security? This practical session gives your Cyber Security Champions the knowledge, confidence and leadership skills to inspire safer working practices and build a strong culture of cyber awareness across your business.

This is for your business if:

  • You are new to cyber security and want to understand the basics.

  • You want your team to recognise and respond to common cyber threats.

  • You want to build safer working practices and a stronger cyber-aware culture.

Session outcomes:

  • Understand the cyber risks of adopting digital technology.

  • Learn how to spot, prevent and respond to common cyber threats.

  • Understand common risks such as phishing, weak passwords and cloud security.

  • Create a practical action plan to embed cyber awareness and resilience.

2.5 hours I Online (Teams) I Up to a maximum of 30 people.

Eligibility - open to all SME manufacturing businesses. No need to have previously registered with Made Smarter. A maximum of two attendees per business.

Level 1: Cyber Essentials

Cyber Essentials gives your Cyber Security Champions the practical skills, confidence and support to strengthen your organisation’s security. The workshop will help your business adopt digital technology safely, prepare for Cyber Essentials certification and build customer trust.

This is for your business if:

  • You want to protect your business from the most common cyber threats.

  • You are working towards Cyber Essentials certification but are unsure where to start.

  • You want practical guidance to strengthen your security and build trust with customers.

Workshop outcomes

  • Understand the cyber risks of adopting digital technology.

  • Learn how Cyber Essentials can protect your business from common cyber threats.

  • Understand the Cyber Essentials scheme and its five key security controls.

  • Learn how to apply Cyber Essentials requirements to your business.

·       Create a practical action plan to work towards certification.

Two x 3-hour sessions I Online (Teams) or In Person (Sheffield) I Up to a maximum of 20 people.

Level 2: Cyber Essentials Plus

Ready to take the next step in your cyber security journey? Designed for businesses that have completed Cyber Essentials (Level 1), this focused training gives your Cyber Essentials Plus Champion the knowledge and practical tools to prepare for assessment and achieve Cyber Essentials Plus certification.

This is for your business if:

  • You have understand Cyber Essentials and are ready to progress to Cyber Essentials Plus.

  • You want practical support to prepare your systems, devices and networks for technical assessment.

  • You want independent verification of your cyber security controls to build greater trust with customers and suppliers.

Workshop outcomes

  • Understand Cyber Essentials Plus requirements and testing.

  • Choose which users, devices, networks and cloud services to include in the assessment.

  • Prioritise key security improvements to reduce cyber risk.

  • Plan the next steps towards Cyber Essentials Plus certification.

Level 3: Cyber ISO 27001

Cyber ISO 27001 is for businesses that want to achieve best-in-class security, advanced resilience and ISO certification.

ISO 27001 requires a strong Information Security Management System (ISMS) and preparation for audits. This training gives your ISO 27001 Champion the knowledge and practical tools to plan, introduce and achieve certification.

This is for your business if:

  • You want to achieve ISO 27001 certification and need support to plan your journey.

  • You need to develop or strengthen your Information Security Management System.

  • You want to improve cyber resilience, meet customer requirements and prepare confidently for audits.

Workshop outcomes

  • Get support throughout the ISO 27001 certification process.

  • Understand the ISO 27001 requirements and security controls.

  • Learn how to identify gaps, assess risks and document the controls you need.

  • Understand leadership responsibilities, ISMS scope and how it fits into your business.

  • Learn how to engage staff, manage audits and keep improving security.

  • Develop a practical plan to implement controls, prepare for audits and maintain certification.

Our tutors are experts in cyber security, digital forensics, and organisational change. They create a supportive and engaging learning environment that encourages reflection, collaboration, and practical application.

 

Eligibility Criteria

  • SME manufacturing businesses in Yorkshire & Humber.
  • For the Level 1 Cyber Essentials, Level 2 Cyber Essentials Plus and Level 3: Cyber ISO 27001 the business must be registered with Made Smarter.
