In an increasingly competitive landscape, the manufacturing sector faces mounting pressure to innovate and adapt.

Digital transformation is no longer just a trend; it’s essential for manufacturers looking to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve their overall competitiveness.

The Made Smarter East Midlands programme is here to support this journey, offering crucial grant funding to help businesses invest in the latest technologies and tools. With match funding of up to 50%, manufacturers can access up to £20,000 to implement hardware, software, or specialised advice tailored to their specific needs.

The East Midlands is home to a vibrant manufacturing sector, contributing approximately £24.7 billion to the regional economy, and employing around 450,000 people, making it a crucial pillar of the local economy. Over 350 manufacturers in the East Midlands have already taken advantage of the Made Smarter programme, utilising grants to enhance their digital capabilities. Many have implemented systems such as Material Requirements Planning (MRP) or Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Customer Relationship Management (CRM), and Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES). Others have integrated existing platforms or purchased vital capital assets like automation tools, robotics, and 3D scanning technology.

Around 38% of manufacturers in the East Midlands have adopted some form of digital technology, whilst 61% plan to invest in new digital solutions over the next year. Whether you’re a micro business or a growing SME, we have tailored options to meet your needs. The potential uses for these grants extend far beyond traditional manufacturing tools, supporting a wide range of digital transformation initiatives, including:

  • Augmented & Virtual Reality: Enhancing training and operational efficiency.
  • Big Data & Analytics: Gaining insights that drive smarter decision-making.
  • CAD/Emulation/Simulation: Improving design processes and reduce time-to-market.
  • Cognitive Computing & AI: Implementing machine learning solutions to optimise operations.
  • Industrial Cyber Security: Protecting digital assets from potential threats.
  • Internet of Things (IoT): Utilising sensors and devices to gather real-time data for improved operations.
  • Mobile Devices & Wearables: Empowering the workforce with the latest technology.

Investing in these digital tools not only positions your business for stronger growth but also improves productivity and delivers long-term cost savings. Manufacturers that have adopted digital tools report improved productivity by 75% and enhanced decision-making capabilities through data analytics by 68%. The Made Smarter grants make these advancements more attainable, especially for companies that might be facing budget constraints.

However, it’s crucial to act quickly, as grant funding is limited and allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Now is the time to apply and start your digital journey. To get started, complete an expression of interest form.
