Rivelin Rail Limited is a Sheffield-based engineering company specialising in advanced rail friction measurement technology. The business designs and manufactures tribometer systems and provides consultancy services to clients across global rail markets.
Operating at the intersection of engineering, data and innovation, the company is developing a range of next-generation products including onboard monitoring systems and data-driven service models. As the business grows internationally, there is a need to strengthen internal systems, improve operational visibility and build a scalable foundation for production and service delivery.
Internship Overview
We are offering a 12-week Digital Internship to support a practical project focused on improving how operational and product data is structured and used across the business.
This is a hands-on role working closely with the team to move key processes away from manual, memory-based methods towards simple, reliable and scalable digital systems.
Duration: 08/06/2026 – 31/08/2026 (Dates could be adjusted to suit applicant)
Location: Unit 8, Regent Works, Burton Rd, Neepsend, Sheffield S3 8BX (On-site)
Commitment: 40 hours per week
Rate of Pay – £12.71
This internship will provide practical experience in applying digital tools and techniques within the manufacturing sector.
What You’ll Gain
The internship will focus on building a structured and usable digital foundation for the business, with a primary focus on operations and inventory.

Inventory & Component Management (Primary Focus)

Create a structured database of components, suppliers and part information.

Map and organise bills of materials across product lines and prototypes.

Review current use of management systems and assess practical improvements or alternatives.

Develop a clear and usable system for tracking stock, availability and lead times.
Desired outcome:
A reliable system where stock, components and supplier information are visible, accessible and usable by the team.

Product & Production Structure

Define how products are structured from components through to finished units.

Support clearer visibility of how products are built and assembled.

Help link component data to product builds and production planning.
Desired outcome:
Improved understanding of product structure and better support for production planning and scaling.

Calibration & Service Data (Further Area, time permitting)

Capture information on installed products and usage timelines.

Support development of structured maintenance and service schedules.

Begin building data on component lifespan and performance.
Desired outcome:
A foundation for predictive maintenance and improved service planning.

CRM & Customer Information (Further Area, time permitting)

Create a simple, structured system for managing customer information.

Organise quotes, communications, feedback and development insights.

Evaluate practical CRM options or structured spreadsheet-based solutions.
Desired outcome:
Improved visibility of customer interactions and better-informed product development.
Project Responsibilities
As an intern, you will:
- Map current processes and identify inefficiencies.
- Design and implement practical digital solutions.
- Build simple data structures, templates and tracking systems.
- Work with the team to test and refine new approaches.
- Document processes clearly so they can be maintained after the internship.
- Focus on delivering practical improvements rather than theoretical analysis.
