This internship will provide practical experience in applying digital tools and techniques within the manufacturing sector.

What You’ll Gain

  • Hands-on experience delivering a real digital transformation project in a growing manufacturing business.

  • Exposure to production, supply chain, stock control and commercial operations.

  • Experience working with digital tools, data structures and workflow design.

  • Mentorship from business leaders and direct involvement in strategic improvement activity.

  • Opportunity to create tangible outputs that impact business performance.

Project Responsibilities

The focus of this internship is to improve visibility, control and efficiency across the bakery’s core operations by digitising key workflows and improving data capture.

Rather than tackling everything at once, the initial priority areas will be:

  1. Stock and Materials Visibility

  • Map how ingredients, packaging and finished goods are currently tracked.

  • Identify gaps, duplication and inefficiencies.

  • Help design a simple digital stock tracking approach (potentially using barcode scanning and structured data tools).

  1. Production Data and Batch Tracking

  • Capture how production is currently recorded (recipes, batches, yields, labour input).

  • Support the creation of structured digital batch records.

  • Help improve understanding of production costs and efficiency.

  1. Workflow Mapping and Process Simplification

  • Map the end-to-end flow of information from purchasing through to production and dispatch.

  • Identify where information is lost, delayed or manually re-entered.

  • Recommend and test improved digital workflows.

  1. Basic Management Insight

  • Support the creation of simple dashboards or reports (e.g. stock levels, production output, sales by product).

  • Help link operational data with financial or sales data where possible.

You will work with tools such as spreadsheets, entry-level ERP or stock systems, and other digital platforms selected by the business.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Map current processes and information flows.

  • Identify inefficiencies and opportunities for improvement.

  • Help design and implement practical digital solutions.

  • Build simple data structures, templates or tracking tools.

  • Work with staff to test and refine new processes.

  • Document workflows so they can be used after the internship.

  • Focus on delivering practical improvements, not just analysis.
