I worked on real business challenges, learned how technology can improve operations, and was encouraged to bring fresh ideas to the table. The business created an environment where you felt supported and valued, rather than ‘just an intern’. The experience opened doors for me professionally, and I still have a great relationship with the team today, nearly a decade later.”

Project Responsibilities

As an intern, you will:

Project 1

This project will focus on analysing and improving the company’s full operational workflow, from initial customer enquiry through to quotation, production, and delivery. You will map the current end-to-end process across systems including the website, email, Trello, Sage, and internal communications, identifying inefficiencies, duplicated effort, and areas where time or information is being lost.

Working closely with management and staff, you will help design and implement smarter digital workflows, automations, and AI-driven processes to reduce manual administration and streamline day-to-day operations. This will include developing integrations between email, Trello, CRM, and other business systems using APIs and automation tools, helping ensure jobs, customer updates, and key information are automatically tracked without relying on manual input.

The project will also involve supporting the rollout of an internal communications and job flow system. The aim is to improve collaboration, reduce missed communications, and modernise how teams work together across the business.

Additional areas of focus may include:

  • Further development and automation of Trello workflows

  • Automated mailing list and customer communication systems

  • Integration of emails with workflow and CRM platforms

  • Researching and evaluating ERP and CRM solutions such as Monday.com, Asana, Salesforce, HubSpot, or Clarity or writing our own.

  • Building systems for quote tracking, customer follow-ups, and sales pipeline management

  • Documenting workflows, automations, configurations, and AI prompts so the business can maintain and expand the systems independently

This is an excellent opportunity for a software, technology, AI, or digital systems graduate to gain hands-on experience delivering real digital transformation projects within a growing manufacturing business. The role offers exposure to automation, APIs, AI tools, systems integration, workflow optimisation, and business process design, with the chance to make a genuine operational impact.

Project 2

As a Digital Systems & Software Development Intern, you will lead an exciting transformation project focused on modernising how information is managed and accessed across the business. You will help design and develop an internal intranet and digital management platform that centralises company documents, staff resources, and Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) processes into one user-friendly system.

The platform will act as a central hub for employees, providing secure access to key documents, onboarding materials, training records, risk assessments, policies, and operational procedures. You will work on improving how information flows across the business, making systems more efficient, accessible, and scalable.
