Start Date: ASAP
Location: Greater Manchester

Role Profile/Job Description

This role will focus on replacing an existing industrial PC-based vision control solution with a more cost-effective, energy-efficient embedded alternative.

The successful candidate will contribute to the design, development, integration, and testing of a prototype system that combines embedded hardware, machine vision, and user interface development. This is an excellent opportunity for a student or recent graduate to gain hands-on experience in embedded systems, image processing, and industrial technology development within a real engineering environment.

Key Responsibilities

The Digital Technology Intern will:

  • Review the current vision-based alignment system and understand project requirements
  • Research and help select a suitable embedded hardware platform
  • Integrate and configure a high-magnification camera system
  • Develop software to capture and process image data for precise plate alignment
  • Support interfacing between the embedded system and machine controls where applicable
  • Design and build a simple, intuitive operator interface
  • Test and benchmark the prototype against the current PC-based system
  • Evaluate hardware cost, power consumption, usability, and performance
  • Document system architecture, development progress, and recommendations for future integration
  • Present outcomes and findings at the end of the internship

Business Overview

The Client is a UK-based manufacturer of flexographic pre-press equipment, supplying plate mounting and proofing systems to global printing and packaging markets.
