The internship will focus on developing a practical, scalable solution to:
- Automatically read and interpret customer artwork files.
- Extract key geometry required for manufacturing (size, cut length, curves, internal cuts, components).
- Convert geometry into rule-based costs for materials, CNC time and labour.
- Generate automated quotes inside Clarity without manual intervention.
- Create a digital design approval process to streamline customer sign-off.
- Automate downstream workflow such as job creation, folder structures, Monday.com updates and Xero draft invoices.
The outcome will be a robust, digital quoting workflow that reduces manual labour, improves accuracy, and enables faster turnaround on bespoke signage.

Business Overview
This company is a trade-only manufacturer of bespoke signage, producing custom sign trays, flat-cut letters, 3D fabricated letters, illuminated signage, and CNC/laser-cut components. All work is unique and based directly on customer-supplied artwork files such as SVG, AI, and PDF. The current quoting process relies on staff manually interpreting artwork, estimating material and machining requirements, clarifying missing details, and entering data into Clarity and spreadsheets. This creates slow turnaround times, inconsistency between staff, and significant administrative workload. The company is now looking to automate the quoting and approval workflow by analysing artwork automatically, generating consistent rule-based pricing, and linking quotes directly to production systems. This internship will design and prototype the digital tools, logic, and integrations required to deliver an automated quoting engine.
Skills required
- Understanding of vector formats (SVG, AI, PDF).
- Scripting experience in Python or JavaScript for file parsing.
- SQL/database logic for rule-based costing.
- Web development (JavaScript, web forms).
- Experience using APIs or integrating digital systems.
- Understanding of CNC workflows and VCarve (training can be provided).
- Strong communication and documentation skills.
