About The Business: Tracmaster is a family-owned manufacturing company based in Sussex with over 40 years of experience producing professional garden and groundcare machinery, including rotavators, mowers and scarifiers. We employ around 27 people and manufacture products using processes such as laser cutting, welding, powder coating and assembly. We are currently investing in a major digital transformation programme following the introduction of a new ERP system. This internship offers the opportunity to support projects focused on improving data, reducing paperwork, connecting systems and exploring the use of digital technology and AI to drive efficiency, innovation and future business growth.
Overview: Support Tracmaster's digital transformation by working on real projects within a manufacturing business. You'll observe and map manufacturing processes, identify opportunities to improve efficiency, and help convert paper-based systems into digital formats. The role includes creating digital work instructions and training materials, reviewing how stock and production data is captured, and supporting improvements to reporting and operational visibility. You'll also research new technologies, explore ways to increase productivity, and present recommendations to management. This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience in manufacturing, process improvement, digital systems and business transformation.
Desirable Skills: Strong digital skills and confidence using Microsoft 365 applications. Interest in engineering or manufacturing and digital transformation.
Job Description:
This internship will give you hands-on experience supporting real digital transformation projects within a manufacturing business.
Manufacturing Process Mapping
- Observe and document how products move through our factory.
- Create visual process maps to help us understand current workflows.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce waste.
Digital Documentation & Work Instructions
- Help convert paper-based processes into digital formats.
- Create digital work instructions for production activities.
- Develop training materials using photographs and video content.
Data & Systems Improvement
- Review how manufacturing and stock information is captured and managed.
- Investigate ways to improve data collection and reporting.
- Support projects aimed at improving operational visibility and decision-making.
Research & Innovation
- Explore new digital technologies that could benefit the business.
- Research solutions that could improve productivity and reduce manual administration.
- Present recommendations to management for future improvement projects.

Working pattern:
The business can offer a highly flexible working arrangement depending on the student's availability. A typical pattern would be approximately 20 hours per week, although this could be delivered through two and a half days, multiple mornings, or another mutually agreed arrangement. The intern will be required on-site to understand operations and establish project activities.
Some activities such as documentation, analysis and content creation may potentially be completed remotely where appropriate, but that will be discussed. The site is located approximately 15 minutes from Burgess Hill and Horsham railway stations and is not directly accessible by public transport. Transport assistance from nearby stations may be possible by arrangement, but access to a car would be beneficial.
