Overview: We are offering a 12-week Digital Internship to support the continued development of our cybersecurity and digital capabilities. You will contribute to a focused project reviewing our current IT, cloud and digital environments, helping to identify cybersecurity risks and opportunities for improvement. A key focus will be supporting the ongoing development of Connect, our patent-pending remote OT connection technology, helping us ensure that as the technology evolves, it continues to meet recognised cybersecurity best practice and provides a secure and resilient solution for our customers.
Desirable Skills: - A good foundation in IT or cybersecurity - Enjoys investigating how technology works and applying knowledge to real-world challenges - Analytical, organised and comfortable researching technical subjects and documenting findings clearly. - An interest in cloud security, networking, Microsoft environments, ethical hacking, secure software development, cybersecurity frameworks, industrial automation or OT security. Experience in these areas would be advantageous but is not essential.

Internship Overview
We are offering a 12-week Digital Internship to support the continued development of our cybersecurity and digital capabilities. You will contribute to a focused project reviewing our current IT, cloud and digital environments, helping to identify cybersecurity risks and opportunities for improvement. A key focus will be supporting the ongoing development of Connect, our patent-pending remote OT connection technology, helping us ensure that as the technology evolves, it continues to meet recognised cybersecurity best practice and provides a secure and resilient solution for our customers.
Location: Wetherby – primarily office-based during initial training, with the opportunity for hybrid working thereafter.
Commitment: 37.5 hours per week
This internship will provide practical experience in applying cybersecurity principles and digital technologies within a real-world engineering and manufacturing environment.
What You’ll Gain

Project Responsibilities
Working with support from the ECS team, the role will contribute to a defined 12-week cybersecurity improvement project. Responsibilities are expected to include:
• Supporting the mapping of ECS's Connect and Command Centre systems, including infrastructure, cloud services, software components, users, access routes, data flows, logging, backups and relevant third-party services.
• Helping to create and validate inventories of key IT and OT-related assets, software, data and suppliers.
• Reviewing existing cybersecurity controls and identifying potential risks, vulnerabilities and areas for improvement.
• Supporting a baseline gap assessment against appropriate cybersecurity good practice and relevant frameworks such as ISO/IEC 27001, IEC 62443 and Cyber Essentials.
• Reviewing areas such as user access, MFA, privileged accounts, device security, patching, backups, encryption, remote access, logging and incident response.
• Researching appropriate technical solutions and good practice where potential improvements are identified.
• Helping to document existing controls, processes and technical arrangements in a clear and structured way.
• Supporting the cybersecurity review of ECS's patent-pending remote OT connection technology, helping to assess its architecture, access controls, data flows, remote connectivity and security controls against recognised cybersecurity good practice.
• Working with ECS engineers, developers and management to understand how cybersecurity requirements need to work alongside practical engineering and customer requirements.
• Producing a final summary of findings and contributing to a prioritised cybersecurity improvement roadmap, identifying recommended actions, priorities and potential next steps for ECS.
By the end of the 12-week internship, the successful candidate will have contributed to a documented cybersecurity baseline and prioritised improvement roadmap for ECS, including recommendations to support the continued secure development of our Connect remote OT technology and Command Centre platform.
Who Should Apply
We are looking for someone who:
• Is studying towards or has recently completed a degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Computing, Software Engineering, Networking, Digital Technology, Engineering or another relevant discipline.
• Has an interest in developing a career in cybersecurity, IT, software, cloud technology or Operational Technology (OT) security.
• Has good communication skills and the confidence to ask questions and work with people from different technical backgrounds.
• Is curious, practical and keen to learn, with an ability to look beyond theory and consider how cybersecurity controls can be implemented effectively within a real business environment.
