Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Cognitive Learning
About The Business: Hafferty Joinery Ltd, trading as Hafferty Interiors, is a UK manufacturer and designer of high‑end bespoke fitted furniture and luxury interior environments. The business delivers design‑led, made‑to‑measure interior solutions and works closely with clients, suppliers, and trades throughout the project lifecycle.
Overview: As the business grows, design coordination, project documentation, and client‑facing materials are increasingly time‑intensive and rely on manual processes managed primarily by the Managing Director. While the business recognises the potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to support design coordination and improve efficiency and consistency, AI is not yet embedded into everyday workflows. This Digital Technology Internship will embed an intern within the design coordination function to provide practical support to the Managing Director while identifying, testing, and embedding AI tools that add clear value to design coordination, project documentation, and client presentation activities.
Desirable Skills: · Degree or recent qualification in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, or a related creative discipline · Strong interest in digital tools and Artificial Intelligence · Familiarity with design and presentation software (e.g. design, visualisation,
Job Description:
This Digital Technology Internship will embed an intern within the design coordination function to provide practical support to the Managing Director while identifying, testing, and embedding AI tools that add clear value to design coordination, project documentation, and client presentation activities. 2
Made Smarter Technology Area Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Cognitive Learning AI will be adopted as a core digital capability to support design coordination activities, with outputs integrated into existing project documentation and coordination systems to ensure repeatable and sustainable use.
Project Goals and Objectives
Overall Goal
To embed practical and repeatable use of AI within Hafferty Interiors’ design coordination and project workflows, improving efficiency, consistency, and the quality of client‑facing outputs while supporting day‑to‑day business operations.
Objectives
1. By the end of the internship, identify and implement at least two AI tools that can support interior design coordination activities such as concept development, mood boards, and presentation materials.
2. Develop a standardised AI‑assisted workflow for producing initial design concepts and client presentation packs, reducing manual preparation time and improving consistency.
3. Integrate AI‑generated outputs into existing project documentation and coordination systems so that information is organised, accessible, and reusable.
4. Support the Managing Director with practical design coordination activities throughout the internship to ensure continuity of business operations.
5. Produce clear documentation and guidance enabling the business to continue using AI tools independently after the internship.
Scope of Work, Methods, and Tools
The intern will be embedded within the design coordination function and will work closely with the Managing Director to support day‑to‑day coordination activities while embedding AI where it provides clear operational value.
The intern will:
- Support the Managing Director with practical design coordination tasks, including preparation of design materials, documentation, and project information.
- They will review existing design coordination and documentation processes to identify areas where AI can improve efficiency, consistency, or quality.
- Research, test, and configure appropriate AI tools for generating initial design concepts and mood boards, supporting client presentation materials, and assisting with documentation and coordination tasks. AI outputs will be embedded into existing project workflows and systems rather than operated as standalone activities. Standard templates and processes will be developed to ensure AI use aligns with the business’s luxury brand standards. Workflows will be documented and simple guidance produced to support ongoing use of AI tools by the business.
- The intern will not be expected to develop custom AI models or software and will instead focus on the effective adoption and embedding of existing AI tools.
Timeline with Milestones
Month 1 – Familiarisation and Discovery Support the Managing Director with day‑to‑day design coordination, review current workflows and documentation, and identify suitable AI tools and priority use cases.
Month 2 – Implementation and Testing Configure and test selected AI tools, develop AI‑assisted templates and workflows, and trial AI outputs on live or recent projects.
Month 3 – Embedding and Handover Refine workflows based on feedback, finalise templates and documentation, and hand over guidance while demonstrating outcomes to the business.
Roles and Responsibilities
The intern will provide practical support to the Managing Director on design coordination and project administration activities, lead the testing and embedding of AI tools within design coordination workflows, develop templates, processes, and guidance for AI use, work with internal stakeholders to ensure AI tools fit day‑to‑day operations, and document outcomes to support knowledge transfer to the business.
