Brainboxes, a manufacturer of industrial communication devices, based in Liverpool, approached the Made Smarter programme for help with digitalising their process.

By working with Made Smarter, Brainboxes were able to adopt a UV printer, which allowed them to digitise the process of adding labels to their products.

Previously, Brainboxes has been adding up to eight labels to each of the 100,000 products they manufacture by hand.

The new technology allowed them to produce products more rapidly and to create bespoke or customised products more quickly. With the new improved speed and flexibility, Brainboxes has been able to win new business.

In 2023, Brainboxes were among the first of 19 Made Smarter ‘Gold’ award winners. The awards recognise businesses for their committed approach to digital transformation, as well as their engagement and advocacy of the programme.

Brainboxes belief in the Made Smarter programme has also seen them take a seat on the North West Steering board, allowing them to support the programme and ensure that other manufacturers can benefit from digitisation.

Luke Walsh, Managing Director at Brainboxes, said: “Everyone at Brainboxes is so grateful to Made Smarter for all the support we’ve received along the way in our digital transformation journey. Thanks to the funding and expertise from the programme, we’ve been able to accelerate our digital strategy, step-up our process improvement, and achieve some truly amazing results during a challenging time for the industry.”
